Language Problem

Postby KnightINDIA » 09.27.09

This is a German server. So, most of the players playing on this server are either German or around that nation. The problem is the language that every1 speaks cannot be understood by me :( .

 So, i would request that along with the rules list, 1 additional rule be added :-
Only English language be used.... :D

hmmm sorry I can't second that. Conversations in game usually aren't deep in any aspect, and controlling that rule would be super hard. Just let two people speak a few lines in their language, if they want to address the whole server they will start writing in English (or the french guys writing in their own language since only very few are open to learn something else :P). Banning foreign languages just won't work. If you feel like chatting with them ask polite if they would switch to English.

It's not that we don't want to learn, it's just that everything is made here to hide that foreign languages exist (learning it late, need to translate everything according to a law, crappy teachers...). I don't know if it's the same for other english unfriendly south-european countries =)

Like Uncle I think we shouldn't introduce this rule on the game server : I don't mind if people speak their own language, if I can't understand them maybe I miss something but anyway I'm here to play... What I don't like is when people insult me in languages I can't (almost) read, but since I don't know they insult me most of the time so it's "fine" :)

Yeah, there are people who know very little of English, but want to ask something, they'll ask on their native language.
Banning language is never good thing.

But about Croatia, every Croatian must learn English or German, subject called "foreign language" in necessary in all schools. Anyway films in Croatia are not translated, they are just like they are recorded, but they have subtitles. So if i hadn't English at school, i'd learn it on internet/TV.

I agree, a few lines of in-game chat in German is fine.
However, my German is nowhere near good enough to understand all the guys nattering away on Mumble

In France too, except it's too late Imo (serious language lessons starts at 10 years old).
You are lucky to have original movie soundtracks, dubbing are so horrible that it should be forbidden rather than being imposed...

You have to admire the French, they always stand up for what they believe in, us brits could learn a thing or two from the French.
