Hum from what you say it's strongly related to the console input/output or command handling. You could try to disable console output (+set ttycon 0, never worked for me though) or launching UrT in a different way than from your transparent terminal =) (you probably use XQF already...).

Playing without the "bling" hit sound is cool, but with totally no sound :o I miss footsteps sounds when I play without headphones, especially in bomb mode when you are the last guy alive :)

I used to lunch it from the Gnome menu, but since I started having problems, at some point I decided to start starting it from (windowed) terminal.

Btw, all of my windows are transparent (90% visible), unless specifically defined otherwise, so I can see what other windows are below them. (And it also looks great and thus makes the whole experience nicer.)

And, if XQF is what wikipedia says it is, I've never used it, as this is the only ioq3* server that I play on, and I found out about it from Aimme. I'm mostly an offline player.

Well, in tdm with 45 players sound is mostly only distracting if you (unlike me) care about your score.

You use true transparency for your terminals, luck you :)

Well, compiz-fusion is cool, although makes Oblivion crash almost as frequently as on a winbox when running it in wine on a 1600Mhz machine with total 128MB video memory... :)

Oblivion would be Bethesda's fault, since it crashes often on every single PC, with any mods, and on any OS. I do not know person who played Oblivion that it didn't crash.

Compiz is cool :)

And i rarely get errors in Urban Terror, yet i must say guys at Frozen Sands had imagination, since they have wierd errors. I only once got, after typing @nexmap, "No mapcycle can be found." or something like that, but that's b3 error.

no compositing effect available for xinerama users >.<
check if your libsdl is compatible with OSS4, maybe you will have to grab a svn version and compile it yourself

I had the problems before installing OSS4 too. I doubt it has anything to do with sound.

I tried openarena's ioq3 today (I just copied over the openarena.x86_64 file from OA's directory over to UrT's directory) by running:
Code: Select all
$ ./openarena.x86_64 +set fs_game q3ut4

from the UrT's directory, but when I /connected to 193.35.68.150:22222 it said "Server uses protocol version 68." and was awaiting challenge. It was the executable from OA 0.8.1. (the latest stable one).

And a side story: when I connected first time to the serwer this morning, I had a triple map load (first one map, then twice the other map), and of course, a reliable after that. I guess I really am a lucky guy.

Maybe its different, since Open Arena 0.81 demos are .dm_70 and Urban Terror .dm_68.

Right, it must be a new ioQ3 version, probably 1.36 : could you verify that ? (bottom right number on the console)

I sometimes have triple loading too, worse is when you double load suburbs ;/
