btw university traffic...

the hard part:
we would need the maps via http from some subfolder named /q3ut4
the easy part:
since every client suck itself and dont leave any info who told him to load from there, it might be hard to lock the users out...

in fact a TB in germany is around 50 Euros, in USA its much cheaper.
if someone wanna donnate such: ure wellcome !!!
its important then that this machine dont fail, since clients cant connect then if they dont have the map.

Hmm hmm, I'

WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS BOARD INTERCEPT CTRL + K???

Again: I'm admin at our University and I have the power to open up some machines to the outside world. But I know I must not do this in order to prevent trouble... :)
Plus I am "owner" of a webserver (virtual webhosting, that is), 99.9% uptime, no traffic limit and currently enough free space. The main sites running on this server currently generate 40 Gig of traffic per month. What do you think how much traffic this would generate? I know it says in the contract that a download site is not allowed, but technically speaking, I wouldn't be hosting a download site. :D

@University traffic again: They would not know who sucks the files down, but they know what files get sucked and who provided them. In the best case they would just delete the files, but they can also lock that users webspace completely down (or some other worse case scenrios which I do not want to think of ;)).

Not this way, the files would be hosted on my/our own servers which I can open up to the outside world. The University ID staff would only see the amount of traffic the server generates and maybe get curious...

Yes if you use your own server there they won't see which files exactly get leeched. I just wanted to represent a case a friend of mine had when he hosted only a single page which was frequently visited on his student account and they locked down his webspace completely. There might be a difference when a staff member does that ;)

That however doesn't get us closer to a solution anyways so please just ignore my posts till now

oki gimme ip, then i switch cname record (maps.dswp.de or such)

i have a java tool running that sync files with different protocols (http ftp smb etc).
that way serwer can suck itself syncronous from maps.dswp.de --> /baseq3

if u want we can show out big hairy balls and open a separate custom maps serwer with 32 slots :geek:

the trick would be to run the custom maps on "the one and only" wurstserver... that way there would be map and there would also be ppl playing those maps.

another server wouldnt be too populated.... IMHO

if that was going to happen..
it would render the underlying idea more or less utterly useless.
