Yes it's displaying the people online on the server using geoip information. Maybe wurst is still playing over his vpn connection and that's why the bot thinks that he is somewhere in Africa (although I have no idea why private ranges should be in Africa)

Maybe because they have (in Africa) free space? If Germany has 89-91.XXX.XX.XX and most are used, and that county in africa has maybe 10000 IPs, they put germans there. Just idea, i don't know why really.

BTW: My IP isn't detected by b3? Or?

btw, im having plans with this worldmap. i just didnt find the time to do everything properly.

first of it all, id like to show it only in the player profile in playerstats.
with only the shown player inside as a little dot.

for this i need an xml file in place, theres pre-written php example that can generate it even from SQL, on the fly.

to update it to DB, theres a php file that can query the gps coordinates on IP request.
best sure would be separate columns in B3 (or better a separate table) that get filled with this data on player connect.

maybe its a good way to archieve this through an sql trigger or better through B3 plugin. anyways: a player connecting on gameserver would execute research of his coordinates and DB update.

btw: the map can be started pre-zoomed into a specific location...
btw2: its free to use but not open source. the clients need the flash.

open source and flash don't really have much to do with each other, open source is how the code is handled, every one can get it in this case, flash is a technique to execute code, just because you can't see the actual code in the page source doesn't mean that it is not open. Like with C and any other compiled language ;)

Having the location in the player profiles is a nice feature, but the geo technology isn't perfect.

Well if i use gnash to play flash it's all open source. But it ain't so good .

I've seen a plugin on a server which welcomes players according to their location, for example it says "welcome svarox from france", but I don't know if it has anything to do with geoip (SG server, 91.121.169.88:27960).
Anyway, I'm in for the plugin part

it's the only way to determine where somebody's from: the IP address.

and it sadly not flawless, if the IP ranges are not quite correct, they are compared to that range and someone from Spain might be shown as on Antartica or whatever. But it's better then nothing and works quite nicely most of the times
