My laptop is deeeeeaaaaaad!!!!!!!!!
Ethernet doesn't work for months now.
Last night the vent was nosiy, so in the morning first thing I did was that I checked up if any process may have crashed and entered an endless loop or something. And when I opened up the display a light show was waiting for me: the screen's neon backlight was flashing like wild (reminded me if this one:
http://z0r.de/2 (
DON'T VISIT THAT LINK IF YOU'RE PRONE TO EPILEPSY!!!)). I restarted, but the picture was distorted and it failed to boot completely. So I thought it was just overheated, so I let it cool down for a while. Then I turned it on again and got white screeen of death instead of BIOS. I tried this and that after but I'd say it'd only be a matter of time before it died completely. At least I managed to get the hard drive out.
It won't boot from my USB flash drive that has SliTaZ on it, and most boot CDs don't boot at all. I managed to boot from one of my Ubuntu live CDs after playing with boot options for a while. Then I noticed that WLAN isn't working anymore either, and it only worked in safe graphics mode, even the text-only terminals have distorted picture.
The point? Don't leave your laptops on 24/7 for years, they might not make it.
