Ban procedure

Postby Samtron » 09.27.10

Hi all, I thought about our ban procedure...

1. The admins are sometimes too lazy to review the demos and ban the catched cheaters. That's not motivating for the mods... Can we improve the situation? Havoc suggested, that mods may have the right to ban up to 5 days. That would give the admins more time to check the demos, on the other hand is an unjustified 5 day ban very long (in case that happens).

2. The Lama's Corner is good, but not perfect for banning. Sometimes an admin answers "Another opinion needed", but when I see Mod-posted-Admin-answered, I don't look in that thread. Also these cheater threads go down really fast in the active topics list and may be forgotten too fast. Something like a list would be nice, where you can find all open ban requests. Or a little icon indicating, that a cheater topic is not yet closed (nerving animated gifs FTW!).

With 1. i agree.

Solution to 2. would be that maker of topic in lammas corner writes "[open] <player> <hack>", and changes name to [closed] when cheater is banned.

OR

I know in ubuntu forums there is option "solved" in your topic (anmins can make that too), so when your request was done, you check that option and name of topic changes.

On the first thing i agree, 5 day ban is not much but it still shows people mods aren't lenient towards cheaters. As long as the maximum ban is reserved for cheaters only (and perhaps extremely abusive language).

As for the forum thing. You can create a section in the forum which is closed to public, only admins and mods can make posts.
If a mod is uncertain of a players legitimacy he can point it out in the demo.
Or, you can make it like we did in WC. ONLY a senior admin (i.e. me) can ban someone for wallhack, autoshoot, esp, radar, nofx and nobody checks his ban unless a ban inquiry os submitted.
If a lvl 60 admin (in dswp case lvl40 mod) submits it, a senior admin must review the ban before the cheater is permanently banned.

In the same section you can make 2 additional sub sections, visible to public eyes.
One where people can post demos of cheaters.
And second for people to submit a ban inquiry.
As soon as a demo is reviewed by an admin the thread is locked, end of story.

Lamas corner is very messy at this moment. There are all kinds of posts there, and of course cheaters demos get lost in all that.

Basically this is how the cheaters section would look like.

==Cheater demos and ban inquiries==

= Cheater demos (visible to public)

= Ban inquiries (visible to public)

= Server bans (visible to mods and admins)

= Problem players (visible to mods and admins place to upload demos of cheaters you're not 100% sure they're cheating, or to talk about a ban inquiry)

This is a simple way to keep all the bans in one place, know where to find demos and discuss ban inquiries in private.

on 1 - ye but then i realized that will only generate even more laziness among admins, knowing that they have 5 (or 3, doesnt really matter, just something above 1) days to react they will become even more relaxed about it. imagine its the end of the week and you have like 73 demos to watch and ban people?

also, the majority of the cheaters are obvious, the problem is when someone is wallhacking and is good at it. and those are kinda rare compared to the rest, but they are really the ones who require demoing and forensics.

in the end, it all comes down to the trust the admins+ have in the mods, and the need mods to be double-checked and micro-managed. server is well populated, theres lots of mods and there is lots of emotional acting, so i perfectly understand and agree with that need.

p.s. rayne - its complex procedure as it is m8, no need to make it even more complex. also putting the stuff in closed forum will deny the banneds to reply there. and they sometimes do this.

Nothing wrong with a little order and organization, keeping things nice and tidy. Not mixing your socks with undies, bras with leather corsets and such.

I am joking :

could you imagine that all the banned ip could be automaticly redirected and connected to another server.

What the hell it could be for all cheaters with no admin : a team of cheters vs a team of cheaters.

So we could keep on playing peacefully and genty.

That would be fun to watch... who would be the first to ragequit? Or the first to know how to activate god mode and win the match?
