Hm, I hope this doesn't mean, that all IPs passed to this PHP script will automatically be blocked by the firewall. Otherwise it would be a big open door for abuse, right?

no its just an api.

the real interface is not available from the internet.
but any server in the lan can access it.

its btw a new concept of firewalling, i would say.

modern firewalls do "deep inspection", thats state of the art.
deep inspection helps only on well known protocols (such as HTTP) and (sure) in some situations deep inspection wont help at all.
example:
client A loads his webmail. threes 1 inbox. np gg.
client B same. many mails. server sweats.
through deep inspection firewalling, it should be extremely difficult to find which http request is now the bad one.

so we go and let the server decide, whats too much or simply illegal.
the information about this is more likely in the server then on the wire.
sure its just a dynamic additional protection.
the chosen infirewall terface is btw a lol HTTP request, if someone need info: plz send message...
