you do not need to have played for years to have what it takes to KNOW something is odd. just read on:
GENERAL"in dubio pro rea" is of utmost importance. either you can point your finger at it and there is no room for further discussion, or the demo has to be 'judged' clear. either you are 100% sure and can explain on certain situations in the demo why you are, or you dont know shit. hello $Rn! =P
if someone is better, i can look pretty strange, even when absolutely no cheats are involved. that is why mack0 is still here, even though he is banned in clanbase, a big gaming league.
always make demos if you are not absolutely sure and
neither judge nor accuse until you KNOW for sure.CLIENT VARIABLES / CVARSuse these in console during demos:
*
/r_shownormals 1this shows players your urt can 'see', even when you cannot because they are behind a wall. /r_shownormals 0 turns of, best is to use it with a keybind like:
- /bind <key> "toggle r_shownormals"
it will only work if the bind is a key on the mouse, pressing keys on the keyboard besides the console key will stop demo replay.
*
/timescale x.xtimescale changes the ingame speed of your urt server. (basically you start your own local server when watching a demo)
- /timescale 1 is 100% speed.
- /timescale 0.5 is 50% meaning half the speed.
- /timescale 2 is 200 percent which is twice as fast .
you cannot set timescale lower than like 0.0001 or higher than like 9999 (i dont know the exact min/max values straight out of my memory.)
you will only need 0.0001 for very slow replay, as you cannot pause demos, 0.4/0.5 for slowmotion, 2-5 for fast forward, (much) higher only for fast forwarding extremely long demos. (demos going on for several maps)
to make it easier, here is a cfg for it:
http://www.dswp.de/old/installation-updates-bugs/demo-cfg-for-faster-slower-replay-t130.htmlNOW ONTO THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF CHEATSbots are cheats helping to aim: bots, autoaim, autoshoot.
AIMBOTeasiest to detect through the
combination of the following:
-
snapping: blazing fast movement of the mouse, abruptly stopping on the target.
-
tracking: after snapping onto the enemy the crosshair stays on or very near of its target, no matter how the target moves.
-
hits: if the bot is not badly set up, most of the shots will hit.
- can be bound to a key, so it may not occur always.
AUTOAIM- same as the above, except for the automatic hits. mostly used with a keybind.
AUTOSHOOT- only shoots when crosshair goes over the target. most of the time these fuckers have a very low sens
- it is only then autoshoot, if ABSOLUTELY NO hits are missed. rewatch demo very closely with timescale if in doubt.
- rare kind of cheat, only seen it twice for sure.
HACKShacks make it possible to see more than you should by what you usually see ingame.
as this kind of cheats can be the hardest to realize, by far. years ago, when p5 (pro-5, a very good german urt clan) was in its prime, they had a wallhacker. he came from cs and said afterwards: "i just wanted to test for how long i can go undetected." i lasted about a year or so till he was caught. and being a real top notch player, has was subject to many, many closer looks. noone suspected him for a long time because he hid the hack that good.
always keep in mind, that combination of several (or all) things below, like:
Quote:
* a good headset (with good equalizer settings, well-adjusted sound, bass/treble/important frequencies raised)
* no background noise in the room
* no music running, at least not through the headset
* keeping an eye on the minimap at all times to know where the mates are
* good soundsettings made for urt via the console
* knowledge of and feel for the maps, coming through experience
* using a voicetool
* deducing what happened from mates dying, bullet marks in walls and blood trails
* checking the minimap (looking at it and turning to orientate with the direction of the arrow)
* turning, to find out in which direction a sound you just heard was
* using a nightvision in combination with smokes in urt 4.1
* anticipation
* pure luck
... may just seem like a (wall)hack. and lead to similar situations and deductions.
the point of the headset is the most important by far. lately several situations occured when i was the only one to have heard an enemy, even though there were other people with me on mumble, and we silently specced the same guy, that was approached by an enemy.
BUT HOW TO SPOT A HACK?- the art of knowing if there is a hack involved, is to realize if the 'suspect' knows more than he should/could.
- no matter if you use the ingame commands or an external program.
- wallhacks show people the game engine already rendered through walls.
- try using r_shownormals as mentioned above, shows you what the engine can 'see'
- bad hackers tend to track or look at people/stuff behind walls.- really good people hacking will hide the hack. and to catch them you very likely have to have played for years, and it is likely to take quite some time, i.e. in form of several demos. and you can never be 100% sure, except you look over someones shoulder.
there are also things possible like:
- itemhacks (showing dropped gear)
- nosmoke hacks (smoke is see through, even without the nvg/tac goggles)
- noflash hacks (no blinding. is not important now, but rumor is out that in 4.2 there will be flash nades again)
- also hacks exist cs, that show where the enemy aims at. i dont know if these exist for urban terror already.
AND WHEN YOU HAVE A DEMO...... open a thread in the lamas corner, with the name of the guy and what you have seen when you specced him. (!)

Just to add few details to Steve's post. Autoshoot is probably THE most dangerous cheat out there. Very hard to detect especially if used by an experienced cheater. And it actually CAN miss. PING tends to fool this hack especially while turning so the player in fact misses his target even tho the crosshair is on him. Hits glitch in the game helps this hack a lot. Best way to catch it is to keep your eyes locked on his crosshair. Don't look arround, ignore ALL sounds except of the sound of his gun. Pay most attention to wall edges, smoke and ghost kills. Sometimes (and it's more often then you think) a player can kill a spectator. If he's gun starts shooting for no obvious reason take a quick look at the top of the screen, if it displays in YELLOW letters that a player (which is currently in specs) was shot, he is defintely using autoshot. I caught 5 hackers using autoshoot since I'm in WC and few more before. If anyone want's to see how does an autoshoot loks like here is a link to a demo of one
http://wildcatsclan.net/download.php?view.12Also i would like to add one more hack that can't be seen to often.
NoFX hack removes smoke and similar effects, if you have a player that is making strange smoke kills but when you spec him no traces of a wallhack are present take in consideration he might be using NoFX.
All those hacks can be used in a lot of different ways (even aimbot). Some can be configured or combined with certain equipment in the game to increase their efficiency and cover the hack.
