Regarding lag issue, maybe dedicated linux machine would solve this? I could offer a C2D based server for free, but located in my DC in PL, so don't know if ping will do - send me PW and I will provide some IPs for tests.

ye it could be nice to run a lan and experiment with remote services.
we have here some physical servers, a bunch of virtual machines, routers etc.
to take it just as a map download server would be embarassing.
for sure we can setup a vpn environment and start networking, exchanging ban IPs/building native sql connections etc.

ah, if i was u: id run my very own server there(dssp for example).
lets make some friendly backup sharing or similar nerdy stuff
