1,6ghz is way too less. i have 3ghz 3gb gf9600gt and also have 40 to 60 on maps with more people, with less fps go up to 100 but are never stable at that.

the reason why lowunstable fps suck is that you have input lag because of it (at least i can feel it on my comp).
your actions are not smootly translated into the game as well as stuff being shown to you is choppy.

I think I solved my sound/exit problem a moment ago by reinstalling SDL with fewer sound libraries. I had libsdl1.2debian-all before, now I have libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio and it's working fine. Yet fps remains low even on bomb with <10 people.

Do you use pulseaudio instead of alsa ? Does the framerate improve when you start the game with +set s_initsound 0 ?

If your computer stucks on Linux, try pressing alt+crtl+F1-6 (should open different full screen terminals) and pkill -9 urban terror (or maybe some capital letters, just a part of the name from ps should work).

Well, i didn't know pkill command. I usually went to tty1 and typed ps -e, i found urban terror or think which broke, and then sudo kill -9 <id>.

I have Ubuntu 9.04, AMD Athlon 64 X2 2800+ (works at 2800), GeForce 8600 GT 512 MB and 4gb RAM @ 800 mhz and i usually have 125 fps. Weird how slightly better preformance can give 40 fps more.

Sure 1.6 Ghz is not that much to play urt (1.6 Ghz/1 Go/radeon 9600m on my laptop), but I have the feeling that the graphic card matter more when it comes to fps... of course the netcode probably use more CPU on a full server. Urt 3.x runs a lot more faster on my pc, and I'm not sure they modified the core engine which is more CPU intensive in version 4. Have you tweaked your config file to get better fps natirips ?

killall urbanterror -9 or ctrl-C on the terminal where X is launched - dirty :)

I don't really care about improving the fps anyway. I could set my CPU to higher speed (1600 is the second lowest setting). I could also try playing in fullscreen I were desparate for fps.

I was only irritated about losing my sound.

And btw, pulseaudio has proven to be much more stable than alsa for me in the past.

playing windowed is worse for frames compared to fullscreen.

Yes, I know that well, but I plain hate applications other than the OS itself being in fullscreen. I just get freaked out by the idea of a single application taking over my entire screen and not being able to make it smaller at any given moment. [shivers]I'm kinda afraid of such loss of control over my screen.[/shivers]
