And btw, are you trying to say I can use OA's ioq3 in UrT? It does compile with GCC, what can of error do you have ? About openarena, you just have to put your q3ut4 dir or symbolic link into your ~/.openarena dir, then you start the game with openarena +set fs_game q3ut4, same ligne in XQF settings. I don't remember anymore. All I remember was that I thought of a very ambitious idea: make my own FPS, so I took ioq3's source, and tried compiling it for a start, but I only got flooded with some errors. IDK, I've never had much luck compiling stuff. Very often I download something that's supposed to be a release version of something, and it won't compile. So far, I've NEVER managed to compile a git snapshot (nor a svn) of anything. Recently, the only stuff that successfully compiled on my machine were VDrift and Lives. I once tried compiling the kernel , it was compiling and compiling for hours... in the end I ended up interrupting the process... ahh, that was one epic fail. However, it didn't give any errors. I'll play more with it tomorrow. dmmh wrote: danyo has friends everywhere And knowledge even greater than mine .

You probably used a default .config file : sometimes it even compiles tape-reader drivers I used to compile my kernel with optimized .config on my sempron 3100+, it lasted about 5 minutes. You also can use distcc to use your bro's fast computer to help compiling accross the network

I also failed at another bigger problem: 3D modeling, so I gave up in the end. That was some year and a half ago I think. SvaRoX wrote: natirips wrote: IDK, I've never had much luck compiling stuff. And I did configure the kernel before compiling, went through all those settings... it took me more than an hour... I don't know where I went wrong... Will maybe try again next summer, or maybe in February (that's when the tests are:) if I'll have enough time. Btw, Svarox, how did you configure your mumble. I either don't get sound in mumble, or I don't get sound ingame. ATM, I've got: input: ALSA [plughw], output: OSS (OK, this combination doesn't work at all). The best I managed was input: pulseaudio, output: ALSA [dmix].

o.O so you got all soundservers emulated, try to find out which one is the "real" soundserver and use it (OSS4 is supposed to be able to handle more then one source of sound and should work). OSS versions pre 4 aren't able to handle more then one sound source and therefore you will only get mumble or UrT or Firefox to play sounds (TS2 only did support OSS :S), there were workarounds but ... as for now just try to stick with pulseaudio or alsa. If you got pulse and alsa emulation running over <OSS4 ... ditch the distro or whoever configured that crap.
Global warming is a lie!

I don't use OSS anymore, even when running TS2 I had a wrapper to use ALSA instead. Only problem is when applications don't support it, like original Q3 :/ Maybe it doesn't work totally because of an incomplete .asoundrc... Alsa is one of the most crappiest thing to configure on linux IMO. Can you have sound from FF and UrT at the same time ? Or from xmms and FF ? Do you use USB mic or standard soundcard input mic ? I use Alsa asym, dsnoop and dmix plugins, I remember having spent hours to have a proper .asoundrc file... I remember you use pulseaudio, but... why ?

Unclefragger wrote: Global warming is a lie! I agree. Here every summer is colder than the previous one. OK, Ubuntu's repo doesn't really have OSS , only wrapper for OSS=>ALSA, so I downloaded .deb from OSS's site. It seems to work with OSS now: exaile + UrT have sound, also exaile + mplayer have both sound (via OSS all). I also reinstalled SDL to have sound via OSS instead of PulesAudio. I had sound in UrT while having mumble in the background. It even worked after a kernel update. I used PulseAudio because it works OOB and is not choppy (unlike ALSA sometimes), at least if there's no more than one application using sound at a time.

so you are running OSS4 now? Tell me if all works fine guess the mumble people would be interested as well (the other day someone claimed that mumble did lack OSS4 support at all).

Ok so you definitely stop using Pulseaudio at the end. Yes Alsa produces choppy sound sometimes, unless you find the right period_size/buffer_size parameters which work fine with your soundcard...
