dont you do that on gpu already?
Nah. I'm not sure if the gpu is used for anything but realtime rendering. At least on 3dsmax that is. I think I saw a video about some 3d program that had like really good quality realtime rendering but I can't remember what it was
[edit]
After doing a bit research I found out that there's a plugin for 3dsmax called Octane which seems to do pretty decent quality fast.... well at least with 7xGeforce GTX 480 xD But yeah... there was 3,5million polygons on the scene, a lot of reflections etc. and the picture rendered in around 5seconds but there was a LOT noise. The author of the video said on the comments that to achieve noiseless image you need to render longer. So hard to say, it seems that you get a really good quality still preview fast with gpu rendering at least. But it was also mentioned that Octane isn't good for rendering animation so, meh. It was also mentioned in the comments that Octane isn't like... professionally good choice? Dunno.
