Hm, in fact it was like the following:
The server had a drive with sql dumps.
these dumps were on the same drive like the DB (silly wursti)
1 day before the move we upgraded the server:
New board/CPU/Ram/Case/HDD, taking the old drives from the old server.
as Murphy demands, on the change the HDD died.
so we stayed with the (8 days old) testdata on new server and carried on with it for the first.
Its imporant to have that DB at all.
not only phpbb, but B3 and Mumlble etc use the same DB.
We need it to get the Services up.
That Dump was 8 Days old.
Blinky had the HD now home, trying to make it run.
After 2 Days of trying, he got it on for some time.
it was enough to copy everything whats missing.
In the evening we bought the fresh Data back, we have now the last regular dump running. it was shot @ 13:05 (server went off 1 minute later)
Now is just the posts missing that were made inbetween.
blinky and me going to migrate this delta to the new DB, we just must change stuffs like "topicID" (cause those IDs are now allready in use...)
after all troubles we decided to sleep well and do this today.
Btw, i forgot to tell you the reason for the move:
The old Provider started to run in a godlike mode somehow.
-The 24/7 access to the machines was canceled (without telling us)
-The temperature was allways a Problem, recently it went to 65 °C
-The provider told he change Prices, not telling precisely what it will be in future.
When i told him that i have problems (sure), he asked me wether i ate some wrong for breakfast, "probably smoking something bad" were other words that he had for my troubles.
Oh people, what to tell? im a gamer, i react heavy on flamas.
Me having some bad for breakast? Never.
He was insulting me sure cause he knew what an IP change mean: Empty Servers, starting up new. At least i interpret it lke that.
However, im glad it took a bit more then a week to use the chance for -hardware upgrade
-finding an new datacnter
-preparing the move
-getting out withoutany loss from desaster recovery
Thx Blinky we have all this, he was teh one that tried the HDD again, he found the new provider.
At this point btw i must thank teh new Provider for acting so fast and professional. He sees that were poor gamers and gives us a very good Price (that is normally for customers that fill whole rack rows...)
Anyways, we lost something more important.
Since URT List dont show dead servers AND u need to *reload list* manually, were not seenable for them till we klick it.
An Aditional Effect is that nobody likes to join empty servers.
However, were a big community, enjoy your stay without Strangers.
Constant Gameplay will sure re-appear in the next Days and Weeks.
Maybe it has a good thing for the success-spoiled admins
(to be glad when at least a noob with a fresh serverlist comes to play...)
