Yeah, the only common factor between a user browsing the forum and a user on our server is the IP. Better to match would be the UrT GUID, xlr ID or the b3 ID, but unfortunately we were little successful in trying to convince Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple or Opera to send the UrT GUID of a user in their browsers
So we can only rely on the IP or the name (which is rarely identical, comparing nickname in forum and ingame name).
We did think of a manual way like !forum <nickname>, however, we figured most people would be having trouble to do that or not realise that is actually possible (I still know quite a lot of people that didn't even register on B3 and don't know they can actually check their stats on this site, nor that there is Mumble available with automated team switching, despite we announce it every 20 minutes or so on the server).
So the most comfortable way to circumvent this tiny problem of ours, is to simply match the IPs. That, of course, brings the drawback of occasional false positives, which occurs rarely enough to neglect it and manually match and/or lock the users that share the same IP (most of the time people sharing the same IP due to connection issues, such as NAT routers etc.). If you know any better way (and you certainly don't, there is none
) you are free to enlighten us anytime though
Have fun fragging and kick Uncle's ass for me next time you see him.
